Former San Francisco Assistant District Attorney; State Bar Certified Criminal Law Specialist
Randall Knox is a criminal defense trial lawyer. He is a former San Francisco Assistant District Attorney where he was the only lawyer certified by the State Bar of California as a Criminal Law Specialist.
He has also represented plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation, including complex corporate, civil rights and personal injury cases. A number of his 90-plus criminal and civil trials in state and federal courts have been featured in the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Francisco Examiner, the San Francisco Recorder and San Francisco Daily Journal legal newspapers, Jury Verdicts Weekly and other publications. He has been interviewed by and a commentator on local television and radio programs.
His white collar crime trial experience includes bank fraud, wire fraud, theft of government funds, embezzlement, insurance fraud and bribery cases. In 2007, Mr. Knox, defended a San Francisco city official charged with 33 counts of bribery, perjury and fraud, which were dismissed after acquittal on some counts at trial. Only one of Mr. Knox’ nine murder defendants has been convicted of a crime greater than involuntary manslaughter. Past clients include professionals, business people, city officials, police and federal agents, prisoners, career criminals, indigents, corporations and municipalities.
Mr. Knox has served on the Board of Appeals of the City and County of San Francisco reviewing land use, permit and licensing appeals from city agencies. When he was a member of the Board of Directors for the Bar Association of San Francisco, he worked with the Schools to College program and the minority retention study. He is past President of the Criminal Trial Lawyers Association of Northern California.
Mr. Knox has taught at Hastings College of the Law, for the Bar Association of San Francisco and others. He has written and graded state bar, legal specialization and law school examinations. His publications range from articles on corporate criminal liability to a self-help manual for prisoners. Mr. Knox also serves as a trial consultant.
